The political economy of the European 18th century declares economics to be a basic human condition. This phenomenon is summed up in the present study under the term "anthropologizing of the economic" and examines how treatises by Spanish reform economists from the late 18th century are reflected in sentimental economic comedies of the late Enlightenment. For the first time since Schumpeter, the study, located at the interface between literary studies, cultural studies and the history of economic theory, offers a German-language overview of the currents of economic thought in Enlightenment Spain and its predecessors, based on current research. In doing so, she establishes references to developments in France, England and Germany on the levels of economic and theater reform. Based on the knowledge that when talking about economic people (homo oeconomicus), the economic man (vir oeconomicus) is usually meant, she develops a set of conceptual tools for Analysis of the recurring economic character types in Spanish reform theatre. By examining comedies from the period between 1762 and 1805, she differentiates between gender-specific incarnations of good and bad management in trade, industry and agriculture, ranging from the vir oeconomicus to the femina profusa are sufficient. In addition to the transfer processes between economic and theatrical discourse, the study pays special attention to the burgeoning liberalism and to a connection between the economic and the religious that is specific to Spain. For its interdisciplinary character, it was awarded the sponsorship prize of the University Society of Münster e.V.

The Pacific Trade and Development (PAFTAD) conference series has been at the forefront of analysing challenges facing the economies of East Asia and the Pacific since its first meeting in Tokyo in January 1968. The 38th PAFTAD conference met at a key time to consider international economic integration. Earlier in the year, the people of the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union and the United States elected Donald Trump as their next president on the back of an inward-looking 'America First' promise. Brexit and President Trump represent a growing, and worrying, trend towards protectionism in the North Atlantic countries that have led the process of globalisation since the end of the Second World War. The chapters in the volume describe the state of play in Asian economic integration but, more importantly, look forward to the region's future, and the role it might play in defending the global system that has underwritten its historic rise. Asia has the potential to stand as a bulwark against the dual threats of North Atlantic protectionism and slowing trade growth, but collective leadership will be needed regionally and difficult domestic reforms will be required in each country.

The current trade war between the US and China looks like a small piece in a much larger puzzle over world leadership in which China plays the part of the ascending challenger seeking to upset the existing balance of power. Technology and innovation seem to be Beijing's weapons of choice in its frontal assault on Washington in sectors traditionally led by the US. China is not only acquiring technology. Its ambitions include the regulation of international trade and global governance. Just what a China-led global order would look like is still unclear, but the inherent dangers of technology need to be meticulously assessed, as they have the potential to alter the core values of modern societies. To what extent will technology facilitate China's rise?

Welche Wirkungen haben Existenz und Ausdehnung von Steuerhinterziehung und Schattenwirtschaft auf markoökonomische Größen einer Volkswirtschaft? Antwort auf diese Frage zu finden, ist Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit. Dazu werden im ersten Teil nach einer Begriffsabgrenzung und einem Blick auf die Struktur der Analyse - systematisiert nach den Musgrave'schen Kategorien Allokation, Verteilung und Stabilisierung - die vielfältigen Wirkungen von Schattenwirtschaft und Steuerhinterziehung umfassend dargestellt. Im zweiten Teil werden im Rahmen verschiedener makroökonomischer Modelle die Effekte auf die gesamtwirtschaftlichen Größen wie Volkseinkommen, Steuereinnahmen und Staatsverschuldung untersucht. Auf diese Weise gelingt es, die Determinanten der im ersten Teil beschriebenen Wirkungen genauer zu spezifizieren.
